THE TYPICAL PRODUCTS

Bermet is one of the first association for Sremski Karlovci. It is a traditional, desert, aromatic wine, that has been produced in this area for centuries. Originally, it was made as a medicine, but as the time went by, the people started to make Bermet for pleasure because of its exceptional taste. The Court in Vienna was buying Bermet in advance from the wine producers in Karlovci at very high prices. From the middle of the 19th century, this wine was exported to the USA regularly

Bermet is a sweet red wine with high procentage of alcochol (16% - 17%). The numerous medicinal herbs, spices and dry fruit, that are added to the wine during the producion, give this wine a specific taste.  
The Ministry of Agriculture pronounced Bermet to be a new protected brand of our country in 2007.

 
Kuglof – The first information about Kuglof dates from the second half of the 17th century. The members of the German Society for the Good-neighborliness ’’Karlowitz’’ from Sremski Karlovci have collected almost 400 recipes so far. Nowadays, the housewives make this cake adding the trimmings such as cocoa, dry grapes, almonds, hazelnuts, nuts, and various grains, etc. Even today, the elderly people remember the way this cake used to be consummated – usually while drinking white coffee.  Lately, you can take a cup of cocoa instead. The most famous are Old, Colorful, Marble and Wine Kuglof
In the honor of this cake, The Kuglof Festival is organized every year in June in Sremski Karlovci. There is a shop in the town centre where you can buy kuglof as a souvenir.
 
Тhe Craft Workshop ‘’Ras Ceramics’’ from Sremski Karlovci produces the souvenirs with the motives that are characteristic for this region. This small family ceramic workshop in Sremski Karlovci represents an ideal place for the presentation of the manual production of various objects and traditional souvenirs made of ceramic. The need to preserve the spirit and the beauty of the villages in Vojvodina and rural way of living initiated a serious production.
Nowadays, in the wide range of products there are the models of the monuments in Sremski Karlovci, the typical houses in Vojvodina, the wells, and huge number of clocks, coats of arms, ceramic pictures, etc. The success of this unique family workshop has been acknowledged by numerous awards and prizes, that it has received for the last couple of years.
 
Weaving – The Vojvodina’s looms give us colourful carpets, bags and covers with the motives of grapevine, flowers, wreaths, horseshoes, religious symbols, etc. The hardworking weavers create the coverings made of cloth and reed, they knit woolen sockes and pullovers. They also sew tablecloths and decorative doilies made of thread.
In this way, the Association of the weavers “Karlovčanka” from Sremski Karlovci is trying to maintain the tradition.
 
Embroidery – In the spirit of the nourishing of the old crafts, a hobby has become a serious work that strengthens the tourist potential of the area. Beside manually sewed traditional objects for household such as tablecloths, curtains, kitchen cloths, handkerchiefs, pillowcases, nowadays, even the cases for the mobile phones and the glasses are made in the same technique.
In Sremski Karlovci, the women that sew act individually or within the Retired Population Society and they exhibit their products at regional exhibition very often.
